Objectives of the Consultancy: Remote Digital Learning Research Consultant – UNICEF
The research consultant will provide support to the design and implementation of digital learning programmes in the region under the supervision of the Education Specialist (Digital Learning). In particular the consultant will achieve three key objectives
ADB Young Professionals Program (YPP)
- Strengthen the documentation and support evidence generation activities as part of digital learning programmes in the region through the development of case studies, and other knowledge products with a particular focus on the use of digital learning in emergency settings and low resource contexts.
- Support the digital learning research agenda led by Innocenti, particularly in the development of data collection instruments in English and Arabic and supporting data collection and analysis activities, for research conducted in in Lebanon, Egypt and Sudan.
- Facilitate knowledge sharing across the region, developing materials to share best practices, and the latest evidence across the region.
- Promote the use of evidence for effective and efficient programming— embedded evidence within programming cycle.
How can you make a difference?
Major areas of work and responsibility
- Developing knowledge products including case studies, policy briefs, and blogs related to digital learning programmes in the region.
- Supporting the design and drafting of data collection instruments and methodology notes in English and Arabic.
- Supporting the organization and facilitation of research co-creation meetings in coordination with colleagues from various UNICEF offices at Country and Regional levels. Supporting the MENARO and Innocenti in provision of ongoing technical support to the implementation of research plans, supporting the implementing UNICEF Country Offices, Ministries of Education, and partners.
- Supporting Innocenti, MENARO and country offices in the collection and analysis of the data collected from the digital learning programmes in the countries.
Supervision
- The consultant will work under the direct supervision of Rabi Karmacharya, Education Specialist, MENARO, with technical guidance from Marta Carnelli, Education Specialist, Innocenti.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
- A Bachelor’s (or higher) university degree in Economics, Social Policy, Education, Statistics, or related social sciences.
- A minimum of three years of progressively responsible professional work experience at national or international levels in the design and implementation of qualitative and/or quantitative research, with MENA region experience required.
- Experience in managing data collection and related trainings; experience in using common online / offline data collection packages (e.g. ODK, Kobo, SurveyCTO).
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Arabic and excellent attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work well as part of a geographically dispersed team and to forge and manage partnerships.
- Commitment to UNICEF’s core values of care, respect, integrity, transparency, and accountability.
Desirable Qualifications: Remote Digital Learning Research Consultant – UNICEF
- Experience in education in emergencies and digital learning desirable.
- Knowledge of common statistical analysis software packages including STATA, SPSS, R etc.
- Fluency in French in addition to English and Arabic.
- Ability to work in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment; experience working in the UN or other international development organization.
